The reviewer rated this router as Top Value due to decent performance while costing less than half of most other router kits. The price was the lowest of the routers tested. The on-tool light (LED) adequately illuminates the cutting area. The soft pistol-like grip handle allows extra control and therefore increased accuracy. A trigger switch in the handle allows the user to continue gripping the handle while starting the tool. Since the router does not have a soft-start motor, this convenient switch is desirable. There are a number of low points, however. The motor does not have soft start or electronic feedback, for example. Also, there is no quick release on the depth adjustment, so to make a large change in cutting depth the user must use a slow, threaded-rod adjustment mechanism. The plunge base on the unit tested often stuck at the bottom of its travel, there is no dust collection for either base, the collect on the motor shaft will not allow easy removal, the power switch is difficult to lock "on" when the unit is used in a router table, and the dial for speed control is difficult to read.
