WHAT'S THIS?

Good High Speed Motor, But Inconvenient Off-table Operation

The reviewer rated this moritser as Top Value, along with the Delta 14-651. The motor is powerful and high-speed, which allows fast, clean, uninterrupted boring into oak and maple. The cast-iron base is stable, the horizontal grip on the long handle provides a comfortable grip and good leverage, the fence is microadjustable so can accurately reach a mortise location, and the machine can bore to the center of an 8-inch piece of wood. The main drawbacks are that the machine must be unbolted from the bench in order to work off the table, even though the head rotates, the locking knob is difficult to reach, and only one chisel is included. The reviewer estimates that a full set of chisels would require about $40 beyond the purchase price.
