Rated Top Value
Wood Magazine, Volume 149, 2003-06

by Toolmark

The reviewer rated this plunge router as Top Value due to the low price for good power and good features. This router costs $100, which is the least expensive router tested that accepts 1/2-inch shank bits. The cutting depth is microadjustable over a 1/2-inch range, and the motor brushes are easily replaceable: both good features. Some low points are that the low speed (15,000 rpm) is faster than on other routers, there is no dust extraction, no self-releasing collet, plunge action is inaccurate (the bit can be off by 1/32 inches), and when used in a table the only height adjustment mechanism is the plunge itself. The 3-inch subbase opening allows an outstanding view of the bit, but does not accept guide bushings. Ryobi offers an adapter sleeve instead of a collet for 1/4-inch bits.
