Overall Impressive Performance
Fine Woodworking Magazine, Volume 191, 2007-05

by Researchgirl

FWW rated the torque and stability of this machine both as excellent. According to the tester, this Rikon lathe (like the Powermatic 3520B, rated Best Overall in this tool test) moved no more than 0.005-in. until a speed of greater than 500 rpm. This means that the lathe won't move when turning a large bowl. Also, there was no speed loss even when 40 lbs. was applied on the brake-and-lever setup. FWW's major complaint was that the tool rest moved 1/4-in. in the hammer test, more than all the other machines tested. This was due to a weak and undersized locking lever.
