The reviewer said this bandsaw narrowly beat the Grizzly G0514 on the basis of a number
of small details such as dual ball-bearing blade guides, a flip-out 0-degree stop on the table,
and heavy wheels.
In particular, this Rikon 10-340's wheels weigh 58 pounds whereas the Grizzly G0514's
wheels weigh only 13 pounds.
One plus is that the dual ball bearings on both sides of the blade not only generate less friction
than disc-style guides but also fully support 1 1/2-inch wide blades.
Another plus is that the large table on this model was the only table tested that could tilt left
without changing the 0-degree stop.
Instructions are posted on the machine itself, inside the lower wheel cover,
for easy access, and describe blade selection, tensioning, and more.
It is easy to move the drive belt to change the blade speed,
due to a handwheel that controls the belt tension,
which is a high point if performing cutting tasks that require changes of speed.
The hex wrenches needed for blade-guide adjustments can be stored on the machine itself,
and no tools are needed for changing blades (although the front rail must be removed).
Although the table has two miter slots, no miter gauge is included with the saw.
Caveat: This bandsaw requires 220-volt service, which is not always readily available in shops.

According to Fine Woodworking's test of eleven 18" bandsaws, this 2-hp Rikon 10-340 was the best value of the bunch. At around $1000, this machine cut very well in its resaw and curve-cutting tests. FWW liked its bearing-guide system, with guides which simply slide back and forth. Its blade changing was the easiest of all eleven machines, and it has a great fence which is adjustable for both blade drift and squareness to the table. It has a cast-iron trunnion support and steel trunnions and a stiff, sturdy table which is easy to lock. On a budget, this is a great choice for an 18" bandsaw.
