The reviewer said this model saw is the only model tested that had concave-ground gear teeth, which should perform better and last longer than flat-ground gear teeth. There are several positive points about this saw: the Baldor motor, the table is easier to align with the blade due to the table mounting to the cabinet with only three bolts instead of four, only seven turns of the handwheel are needed to raise the blade all the way, and the split blade guard covers the blade completely, even if the blade is at 45 degrees. Some negative points are that the cursor line on the fence bezel is too thin, the fence deflects under only 20 pounds of pressure, and much dust remains inside the cabinet even when a dust collector is used. This model does not come with a power cord.

Although Fine Woodworking loved Powermatic's PM2000, another 10" cabinet saw, the more basic Powermatic 66 did not score quite as high. The machine's blade/miter slots were out of parallel to the point of requiring adjustment and its switch was inconveniently placed, unlike the PM2000. What's more is that this model tends to be more expensive even though it has fewer useful features. Like the PM2000, this machine comes with extension table and legs.
