The reviewer rated this jointer as Top Tool since it not only rated at the top in many test areas but was priced close to the Craftsman 21703 and Jet JJ-8CS jointers that generally scored somewhat lower. This jointer is very good in cut quality, bed length, and weight. In particular, the bed length is 83 inches, which is 8 inches longer than the next longest bed tested, and the weight is 600 pounds, which gives the machine good stability, especially when working with long, heavy stock. Other positives are the rack-and-pinion fence-tilt system, a plastic fence guide that protects the tabletop, a column-mounted magnetic power switch for safety, and a depth-of-cut limiter for safety. This machine uses a lever instead of a handwheel, but although most levers lack precision, this model's lever is so smooth that no precision loss is evident.
