Solid and Smooth (2008-03-06)
The reviewer had heard positive things about this bandsaw before reviewing it, and was more impressed while testing it out firsthand. The machine was described as "solid" and "smooth," largely because upon startup there are none of the usual rattling or scraping sounds of typical bandsaws, just a smooth hum with remarkably low vibration. The reviewer sawed several 6"-wide pieces of red oak and maple, and the saw with its 1 1/2-hp motor had no problems with this load, even though it was the maximum load without using a riser block (optional). Three pieces of 4/4 maple also gave the machine no trouble. The dust port is well-positioned and caught almost everything. There is a quick-release blade tensioner from Carter, and there are three handle positions for: fully tensioned, fully detensioned, or tensioned enough only for adjusting blade tracking. The ball-bearing blade guides are easy to adjust and lock, and are microadjustable. A gooseneck lamp and dust blower are standard equipment accessories.

Limited Use to Date Because of Continuing Problems. (2007-02-19)
Until I read the reviews of others, I thought the problems I was having with my Powermatic 14" bandsaw were the result of inexperience. Apparently not. I bought my Powermatic, with 6" riser, about one year ago but have used it very little because of problems. Despite many adjustments, I cannot align the blade so that it tracks in the center of both wheels. It's OK on the top wheel, but runs at the front edge of the bottom wheel. From reading other reviews of those who purchased the riser, it appears that alignment within the riser is a problem. Tech Support apparently suggests removing the pins so that the blade tracks correctly -- but if this is a know problem, why hasn't it been fixed? So far I have completed a couple of small projects, but I must admit that each time I hit the START button I'm a little anxious about what will happen.

Great Saw (2008-06-01)
So I don't rewrite everything that has been said I'll be brief. Purchased this saw during Woodcraft sale Feb 2008 which included the mobile base and riser block.

I purchased this at a local Woodcraft this past weekend when they had a 10% discount on Powermatic products, plus the fact that for the month of April, Powermatic was throwing in the riser block free.... (More)
