WHAT'S THIS?

A Decent Performer (2010-06-04)

Porter-Cable’s mainstay style for years, this sander has a tall neck that provides multiple gripping points. While aggressive, it vibrated and rocked, and the user will have to sand to 320-grit before it removes all scratch marks. The on/off switch and speed control proved the easiest in the tested bunch to use.

In my woodshop I have used 2 Porter-Cable random orbit sanders for the last few years. I am a Porter Cable fan and I have their saws, grinders, drills, belt sanders, and biscuit jointer. I loved the sanders but the only issue that I had was the dust collectors kept falling off. So I bought 2 new and improved ones at Lowes with the snap on dust collector. I couldn't wait to use them. After a few minutes of sanding the collector fell off. So I carefully put it back on, making absolutely sure it was right. Yep, you guessed it: it kept falling off. The other new one did the same thing. So I returned them to Lowes for a refund.
Based on the reviews, I bought 2 Makitas and after a few hours of sanding they seem to function perfect.
