Care with this tool, it really packs the power. With an inch wider cut than standard planers and a much higher motor amperage than other models, its no wonder that this model can slice through 1/8 inch deep cuts effortlessly. However, with all of this power, the model lacks in the sense that it is not for fine cuts at all. The fence is not even worth the tool, but if there is any need for a strong shaving job, this is the right tool.

Serious Power for Serious Planing (2008-04-28)
The reviewer implied this is a serious power planer without any frills. For example, there is no park shoe, and the fence seems like an afterthought, but the power is decisive. This planer can cut wider (4 3/8" total) than most planers and requires little effort even at the full (1/8") cutting depth. The amperage is more than twice that of the Hitachi P20SB planer. It is not a planer for fine furniture, but it can outperform other planers in sheer power.
