The reviewer said that when compared to the Rikon 70-100 mini-lathe, which was rated Top Value, this model has features that are both better and worse. This model has 2 inches less swing and 3 inches less between centers, but on the other hand this model has variable speed control. The motor is 1/2 hp, which is acceptable for turning 9-inch bowls and 15-inch spindles. There is little vibration, the spindle has chamfered threads, and this model has great alignment of centers. A few drawbacks are that the lathe's quill lock and keyway sometimes allow the quill to spin within the tailstock. Also, the speed control box makes it difficult to access the lower pulley, which becomes an issue when using three-tiered pulleys. The speed is variable between 500-3,900 rpm. Some accessories are a 23-inch bed extension ($60), a lathe stand ($125), and a lathe stand extension ($65).
