Cannnot Handle Extreme Loads, But Decent Overall

The reviewer mentioned that this was the only saw tested whose table tilting mechanism used only trunnions instead of gears. Unfortunately this design allows the table to tilt when weight is applied: whereas all other bandsaws had gear-based tables and dropped only .005-.006 inches when a 30-pound weight was hung from the side of their tables, the Jet JWBS-16's table dropped 0.020 inches under the same conditions. A much more significant down side to this saw is that the motor is somewhat underpowered. Although this saw cut faster than the Grizzly G0513 under 5 pounds of force, it was the only saw that couldn't compete at all in the extreme test with 15 pounds of force. Numerically this is due to its motor's low amperage (5.8 amps compared to 10-12.5 amps for other motors) and its lower blade speed. There are some high points, however. For example, the dust collection is excellent and uses only one 4-inch port. Also, the upper Euro-style guide discs are microadjustable, and the saw had the best cutline visibility of any saw tested, due to the saw's guide/guard design. Another plus is that the saw draws only 11.5 amps at 110 volts, so it will run from most circuits, unlike saws that require 220 volts. Some low points are that it is tedious to change blades on this saw due to the fine-threaded tensioning rod, the saw lacks a quick-release tensioner (which all the other saws had), there is no blade-tracking window, and a fence and miter gauge are not included.
