5 out of 5 Very Good Router It Doses the Job! (2007-07-04)

This is one of the best ones on the market, for the price no router can beat it. It has all the futures that other brands has. I really love this router it has done the job for me, and I am thinking about putting it in a router table to make it more useful, and get the Hitachi Plunge/Fixed Base Kit for hand routering. I give this tool 5 stars.

4 out of 5 Good for a Router Table (2007-05-21)

I got this router as a xmas gift and had no real use for it since I already had a porter cable with a fixed and plunge base. One day I got tired of swapping my pc in and out of my router table and decided to get a plate for the hitachi from rockler.

I have since left the hitachi in the router table permanently. You could certainly do better for a dedicated under the table router with all the newer models coming with above the table adjustment screws, but this one has specific features that are great for a budget router.

The quick release color on the fixed base is perfect for mounting. It's situated so that it can always face to the front of the table making it easy to reach under and make adjustments.

The soft start motor is great and would be a good feature for using without a table because the start up torque is minimized making it less likely to slip from your hands causing an accident. It's also a good feature for mounting because hard start ups are not absorbed by your hands and arms meaning that force is put directly on the tool's motor and bearings. Soft start is a good feature that I wish more tools had.

Variable speed control is another terrific feature of this router. Many router bits and wood types respond better at specific speeds and although there is not a tachometer on board, the speed control can be adjusted while the motor is running and you can use your ears to guess the speed if you know the slowest and fastest speeds, which can be had from the manual.

There is a tiny bit of movement when loosening and clamping the quick release. This is not a huge problem for me - it just requires a little extra work to make sure the height is exactly where you want it.

I've had this router for two years and have had no issues with it. I'd give it 5 stars if it weren't for the slight movement when clamping the base lock.

At 2-1/4 horse power there is plenty of power, which is very good for a router of this size and price.

Good price for a good quality router. Light weight and controls are easy to use and access. (More)

3 out of 5 A Cautionary Note (2007-11-19)

I bought this router during a promotion about a year ago. I figured for the price, I couldn't go too wrong. I use this router mounted in my router lift with good results. Positive experience echos... (More)

3 out of 5 Be Nice if I Could Actually Use It (2007-08-13)

I wanted to use this router for my router table but they have the screws in the base plate so tight I am going to have to drill them out, so I keep putting off using it with the table. Seems to work... (More)
