This Grizzly Gets the Job Done! (2010-06-03)

by Gadgette

When Wood Magazine tested this 14" bandsaw, it demonstrated the least amount of blade deflection. Blade-tension quick-release lever allowed for quick blade changes. This Grizzly model also came with great high points - miter gauge, and sturdy rip fence with easy-to-use scale. The microadjustable ball-bearing blade guides cut tight curves. The table enables users to cut high-angled dovetails. While it was not the most powerful saw, it cuts accurately and has nice features for its $395 price.

Good Performance, Great Value
Wood Magazine, Volume 149, 2003-06

by Toolmark

The reviewer rated this bandsaw 4/5 on performance, and 5/5 on value. Standard accessories include ball-bearing blade guides, a 4-inch dust port, a quick-release tensioner, a miter gauge, and an outstanding rip fence. The rip fence is excellent for a 14-inch bandsaw: it adjusts for blade drift, and has a magnified cursor. The 1-hp motor can easily resaw 6-inch-wide red oak boards. An optional block riser costs $50, and this can boost the resaw capacity from 6 inches to 12 inches. An optional mobile base is $70. Altogether, this bandsaw and its accessories cost hundreds of dollars less than comparable bandsaws.

5 out of 5 Good Home Use Saw (2010-01-17)

This saw set up nicely and works well---it is very well built and has a good sturdy table. too many people seem to expect that they can open a box and turn on a piece of equipment without cleaning up the shipping grease and properly adjusting it---reading the owners manual helps with the specifics and for the inexperienced, a trip to the library yields much information on power tool setup, operations and proper blade selection for the application. This saw comes with a very good owners manual that does a good job of explaining the setup and basic bandsaw operations that will allow a novice to to do a good job of setting up the saw. Take a few minutes to learn, and life goes much smoother.

5 out of 5 RECOMMENDED! (2010-01-15)

Purchased the GO555 bandsaw, riser block, and mobile base for about $500 (picked it up in Springfield, MO). Other than occassional minor adjustments, it performs perfectly. Added a work light and a high-quality blade, which it should include in my opinion.

No complaints for the price paid. RECOMMENDED.

4 out of 5 My First Saw and I Love It Alot (2009-01-20)

I just bought my GO555 14" bandsaw. I paid $395.00 for the saw and another $130.00 for a riser block and a mobile base. The shipping was $65.00 and $20.00 for some accessories.
You need a mobile base if you plan on moving the saw , ever. It's heavy, which is a good thing in this case. You can use wheels also. The set-up was alot easier than I thought it would be, it took about 2 hours all told. The riser block came with a part missing and a cross-threaded bolt. I called Grizzly and they shipped me another set without much drama.
The unit comes in 1 box at about 150LBS.. You will need a new blade, the one that comes with the saw is no good. You should get some good quality tires and blade guides. Now isn't the time to be cheap. You will be glad you weren't.
I do alot of resawing. The GO555 does the job nicely. It's good on curves too. It's slightly out of co-planer. Less than a 1/8", not so bad. One day I'll fix that, maybe, if I ever need that sort of detail. For now, this saw is just what the doctor ordered. It has made my life and shop better.
I heartily recommend the Grizzly GO555 14" bandsaw to anybody that needs a good saw for a good price. Yes there are other 14" saws out there, but this one seems to be everything I need and it will be for you as well. Do yourself a favor and get a Grizzly tool.

5 out of 5 Wished That I Got It Sooner (2008-10-02)

I've had this bandsaw for 3 months. I'm very satisfied with its performance. I studied many articles and reviews for over a year before purchasing this Grizzly bandsaw. I like its heavy construction, 1 HP motor, ease of table tilt and ball bearing guides. It was easy to assemble (especially with an overhead lift) and to adjust. My only complaint is that the blade that comes with it, is useless. It was good for about 3-4 uses. You'll need to go out and get a couple of good quality bandsaw blades. I, also, got the riser block and mobile base. I didn't install the riser block until I used the saw for about 2 months learning all its idiosyncrasies. After installing the riser block (which was easier than I thought) and making the adjustments, I resawed a 6" maple board with some difficulty (using Grizzly's furnished saw blade. I replaced the blade with a Pro-Olson blade and resawed another maple board like a hot knife through butter. Just the other day I resawed a 10" piece of Santos Mahogany with ease. This is a good performing saw and a great value. I highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 Band Saw (2008-04-27)

Very nice tool for any workshop. Lots of power. The 1-hp motor has plenty of power. Very nice fence. The a 4-inch dust port is positioned to remove most dust.

This is my second bandsaw. The first was an older table top craftsman that was noisy with a plastic housing. When you got the blade in a bind the blade would come off.

Very heavy duty construction. I do need to replace the blade. I get alot of drift when resawing hard wood.

The base is wide and the saw does not move.

5 out of 5 First Grizzly Purchase, and Very Pleased (2008-03-31)

The saw came in two boxes. Both boxes were in really good shape . . . UPS kinda goofed on the delivery (had to meet the driver on the side of the Hwy) but I was pleased to see the boxes in good shape from what I had read on the internet!

Anyway, unpacked the stand with no problem and when I got to the saw itself there was NO WAY I was going to lift it out by myself and get it put on the stand. So after waiting on my Father-in-law to come help me lift it up, he also helped me assemble the tables. Everything went together as it should. And we were both impressed with the entire package.

After spending almost an hour to get the tables level to one another, and the guides where they needed to be, the saw was ready to cut. I should mention the manual was very helpful and complete. Follow it step by step (although one could figure it out on his own) and even a novice shouldn't have any problems setting up the saw.

The fence is nice, although probably won't get used much. The light is helpful. The saw is very smooth running, heavy, and well made. Overall I am VERY impressed with the saw. And the price only adds to the enjoyment! I will buy from Grizzly again!
