Outstanding Saw for the Woodworker (2007-07-31)

by Morepower

Reviewers and users are raving about this saw. It provides table and panel saw quality cuts without the bulk of the bigger saws.

As a 6.3" (1 15/16" depth cut), 10A, plunge cut, variable speed, direct-drive circular saw. It's not a framing saw, it's a versitile cabinet making saw.

Although it can be used stand alone, the magic happens when it is mated with a special guide rail which provides dead straight, near splinter free cuts in nearly any material.

The guide rail simply lays on the work piece and because it has a special gripper surface it rarely need to be clamped. Just plop the guide down on the work piece and line it up with the cut line. It doesn't clamp on the edge of the material like after market guides so it can cut at any angle on the work piece. Also, beveling the blade on the saw does not create an offset so you can cut beveled edges with ease. Additionally, the dust collector works quite well when connected to a vac.

The only negatives are that it is pricey (but all the users and reviewers think it is worth the $$ if you really use the features of the saw) and the depth gauge is metric.

If greater power and depth is needed check out the Festool Circular Saw TS 75 EQ which uses a 8 1/4" (2 3/4" depth cut) blade.

I would love to get my hands on this saw for testing, when I do I will post a full review.
