Although this DeWalt planer has a stiff cutterhead lock, it performs very well. According to Fine Woodworking's test, it has excellent carriage parallelism and a small, unmeasurable amount of snipe. This planer even comes with a dust collection hood and an extra set of knives. It is a good choice of the mid-range ($300-400) benchtop planers.

Nice Planer for the Money. (2008-03-31)
I bought my planer from Lowes, and it never seemed to work right from the beginning. I noticed some wood chips in the planer when I opened the box and just figured it was tested before shipping. I cleaned the rollers, waxed the bed and infeed/outfeed tables, and tried taking less of a bite, but it never seemed to work as expected.
Finally I changed the blades and Man O Man what a difference! Somone must have used it before me? I checked the serial number and there is no "R" for reconditioned anywhere? But the new blades made it quiter, seemed to have more power, the cut was MUCH better, and it finally preformed as I expected.
I put sassafrass through it for about 6 hours straight before the motor overload finally popped. And this past Christmas put Oak through it for about 2 hours and it took it just fine. I am very happy with the machine overall, and have had it for about 4 years now.

Pretty Darned Good for the Money (2007-12-12)
I must say I am pretty pleased with my DeWalt planer. Although it is not TOTALLY snipe free, it does do a more than adequate job. It is easy to set-up and use right oout of the box. Knife changes... (More)

Didn't Stand Up Well. (2006-02-18)
After 3 years of occasional use and a larger than usual amount of repairs, I would rate this planer fair.
I used this planer for mostly hardwoods such as Oak and Maple. I never planed... (More)

If a Woodchuck Could Chuck Wood (2004-02-12)
I like this planer just fine. However I must admit that this is the only one I have ever used. I had a friend who had a maple tree fall in his yard. We went our and ripped about 40, 12" x 30" x 3"... (More)
