Pleasantly Surprised...after All the Bad Reviews (2008-01-11)
I tend to research products before I buy them, and I have to say that the decision to purchase this saw was one of the toughest choices that I've had to make based on all of the bad reviews. I've grown up working with my father who has specialized in kitchens and bathrooms for the past 32 years. Over the years I have gotten used to having every tool that I needed at my disposal. After I bought my own house, I grew tired of borrowing tools from my father and brother to make improvements. I decided to purchase a miter saw because it seemed to be the one thing that I always needed. My brother has a Delta 36-322L. I thought that it had a great laser system with a line on both sides of the blade. My father has a DeWalt 708 which is fantastic. So I made the decision to look into the DeWalt 718; especially because it has a greater capacity. I was shocked to read all of the negative reviews. I decided to read every review for comparable products from Bosch and Hitachi, and I noticed that they all say the same thing. One guy says that it's the most accurate saw that he's ever owned and then another guy says that he's never been so disappointed in a tool purchase. With respect to accuracy, every saw needs to be set up out of the box, and checked periodically. The only criticism that was unique to the DeWalt 718 was the fact that the sliding action was not smooth. It bothered me, but I decided to buy it. The first thing that I did was buy a new blade and adjust the saw. I've used it to do trim in several rooms now and I have been extremely satisfied. The reality is that although the sliding action is not super smooth, it hasn't compromised any of my cuts. In addition to that, other people have said that it just needs to get broken in before it operates smoothly. I've been happy with my purchase and I recommend that others overlook the C grade that was given to this saw. The only negative about this saw that holds true is the dust collection. It doesn't work, but I think that it's a function of sliding miter saws. The functionality of dust collection is not practical for a sliding saw with such a large capacity.

Lacks Power (2008-05-28)
I have used the Dewalt miter saw for years and thought I would try the dual bevel sliding model. It seems to lack the power of the older regular miter saw. (More)

Good Job Dewalt! (2008-05-28)

Quality Reduction (2008-05-28)
So here's my story.
I've owned the previous model (708 dual bevel sliding miter) for about 7 years and loved that saw. Great quality blade, great cut, dead on. The saw was heavy duty... (More)
