The reviewer rated this DeWalt router Top Tool among handheld routers since it is $110 less than the Bosch 1619ES, which is roughly equal in performance. One of the specific high points of this router are a high quality depth-setting system, due to the rack-and-pinion depth stop, fine adjustability, and a magnified cursor that can be zeroed easily. The plunge action is smooth and the light spring tension is the proper strength. Although this router is good for handheld use, it's not quite as suitable for talble-mounted use. One low point is that the bit-height adjustments are slow, due to the lack of a coarse adjustment knob, and due to the fine adjustment knob being too close to the router's body. (An extension for this knob is available, but costs $25 extra.) Another low point was that the router was supposed to have a soft-start motor, but the torque was quite noticeable upon start-up when holding the router.

I have had this router for 8 years now. I have one other large router, a top-of-the line Fein. I used to prefer the Fein, as it runs more quietly, has a nice on-off switch, and is lighter. (More)

The quick release nut is now a constant release nut. The fine adjustment is poorly designed. When I tighten the knob to lock it down, the adjustment bar actually moves from where I set it--not good. ... (More)
