1-2hp Plunge Routers are a good place to start when you are considering your first router. A plunge router can do virtually anything you can do with a fixed based router, but has the additional capability of being able to plunge into the work piece and then be removed from the work at the end of the cut. Fine depth adjustments are generally easier with plunge routers. Dust ports are generally available to collect waste. These are generally a little more expensive than an equivalent fixed based router and they are a little more bulky, but the added versatility is essential for some applications. Glossary: Router
